Does anyone remember that Soylent Green is people? Green Zar maybe doesn’t know that Rosa Parks wasn’t wanting to push babies and old people under the bus for population control.

Does anyone remember that Soylent Green is people?

Okay, yesterday’s science fiction becomes today’s reality. For instance, in Star Trek, Captain Kirk’s communicator became the cell flip phone, and Lt. Uhura’s navigation/communication system became today’s GPS. Many would agree that those are helpful and useful commodities. But another sci-fi reality is population control. In Soylent Green, for instance, the going nutritional craze called Soylent Green had a special ingredient mixed in with the ocean nutrients, the tasty protein was from people who had been exterminated.

The year is 2022. New York City has become overpopulated with 40 million people and pollution has caused the temperature to be risen and all natural resources have been destroyed, leaving 40 million people starving. The Soylent Company has created a new food product, Soylent Green. In the overpopulated and polluted New York City, police detective Thorn is assigned to investigate the brutal murder of an corporate official of the Soylent company, William R. Simonson. Thorn’s investigation into Simonson’s murder leads him to uncover a conspiracy in the Soylant company and the Soylent Green food product itself, where Thorn uncovers the horrible truth about Soylent Green. Does this sound farfetched? No more than Captain Kirk’s flipping the phone did in the sixties. Today, Save the Planet sounds good, couched in terms of how Rosa Parks led the way to everyone being able to ride the bus, current plans include taking some baby boomers off the bus in very creative ways.

Population control, health care plans with special provisions for women’s reproductive health, counseling for the elderly, as Green Zar Van Jones says, everything starts out simple, and can become something else.    So, what sounds one way can become something else. Unexpected outcomes are nothing to play with. One thing about it, Rosa Parks wasn’t trying to push babies and old people under the bus. On the other hand, unlike the God directed Civil Rights movement of the mid-20th Centry, the 21st century eugenics driven, genocidal enabling population control movements won’t be looking out for the least of these.
