NEW YORK – Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, the Catholic Church’s largest pro-life organization, today praised Florida Governor Rick Scott for signing legislation that will establish a 24-hour waiting period for abortion.

“We should rush to save lives, not end them,” said Fr. Pavone. “If Governor Scott and the Florida legislature will have saved one life through this legislation, it will have been more than worth the effort.”

The new law is scheduled to take effect on July 1, when Florida will become the 27th state to have a waiting period for abortion. North Carolina recently enacted a 72-hour waiting period.

“Abortion is a final, life-altering, life-ending decision,” added Fr. Pavone. “Sometimes one day can make all the difference in someone’s life.”

Priests for Life continues to work throughout the country to promote laws like this where they do not yet exist.
