Staten Island, NY – Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today applauded the Oklahoma legislature’s passage of legislation to protect unborn babies from dismemberment abortions.

“Oklahoma’s bill makes it illegal to ‘slice, crush, and/or grasp a portion of the unborn child’s body to cut or rip it off.’ This is graphic and gruesome language, but that’s because it accurately and objectively describes a dismemberment abortion,” said Fr. Pavone. “The abortion lobby hates bills like this because the abortion lobby works day and night to try to hide the truth about what happens to the children they kill.”

Oklahoma’s legislature became the second in the nation to pass a bill to bar procedures where an abortionist uses clamps, tongs, scissors, and/or other instruments to sever a baby into pieces and then remove the child piece by piece from his mother. Kansas enacted the first such law earlier this week.

“I have had the joy of addressing the Oklahoma state legislature in the past, and this praiseworthy action does not surprise me, given the quality of those who serve there,” added Fr. Pavone. “Governor Mary Fallin has a solid record of protecting the lives of those she serves. I urge her to continue to further the Culture of Life by signing this humane and groundbreaking legislation.”
