NEW YORK – Fr. Frank Pavone today praised the House Budget Committee for voting to advance the American Health Care Act, which includes a provision to defund Planned Parenthood.

“Killing is not health care,” said Fr. Pavone. “It’s altogether proper that hundreds of millions of dollars in payments to Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest terminator of unborn babies, be stopped under any legislation that reforms our health care system.”

The House Budget Committee today approved the bill to “repeal and replace” Obamacare and sent the measure to the House Rules Committee. The provision to defund Planned Parenthood was a key part of the Obamacare repeal bill that was approved by the previous Congress, but that was vetoed by then-President Obama.

“Any measure that protects taxpayers from having to subsidize abortion – and any money sent to Planned Parenthood subsidizes abortion – is a positive step,” added Fr. Pavone. “There is no reason why Americans should be coerced into keeping the lights on in clinics that destroy lives rather than heal them.”
