TITUSVILLE, FL – Father Frank Pavone, National Director, and the whole Priests for Life team today thanked the voters of West Virginia for taking a step forward for the unborn.
Voters yesterday approved Amendment 1 to the state constitution to make it clear that it does not secure a right to abortion, and to prevent taxpayers from having to pay for elective abortions through the state’s Medicaid program.
“As we see elsewhere, the decision to use taxpayer dollars to fund elective abortions did not come through the democratic process. West Virginia funds abortions through Medicaid because of a judicial ruling,” Father Frank said. “In West Virginia, the number of Medicaid-funded abortions has risen dramatically in recent years, increasing from 502 in 2013 to 1,560 in 2017. And evidence is clear that removing money from the abortion industry increases the numbers of babies brought to birth who would otherwise be killed by abortion.
“By voting for this amendment, West Virginians have saved lives,” he said. “This is a big victory for the unborn in West Virginia.”
