TITUSVILLE, FL -- Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today thanked President Donald Trump for his decision to stop using stem cells from the tissue of aborted babies in government research and to continue to search for alternatives to human fetal tissue research.

“President Trump has made the protection of the sanctity of life a hallmark of his administration and today’s rule change in the Department of Health and Human Services is another promise kept,” Father Pavone said. “There is much promising research taking place that does not require the exploitation of aborted babies.”

According to a statement from HHS, the department terminated a contract between Advanced Bioscience Resources and the Food and Drug Administration that provided human fetal tissue from elective abortions to develop testing protocols because HHS was not sure that all requirements regarding the procurement of the fetal remains were being followed.

A subsequent review of all HHS research involving human fetal tissue was undertaken, leading to today’s announcement of a rule change.
