TITUSVILLE, FL — Priests for Life and Evangelist Alveda King have just taken part in the Catholic Inspired Organization’s 2017 forum that met in Rome Dec. 11-13.
Alveda King is the director of Civil Rights for the Unborn, the African-American Outreach of Priests for Life. Bob Lalonde is the director for international activities for Priests for Life and is the organization’s main representative to the United Nations. Priests for Life participates at the UN as a registered NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) with special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council.
Catholic Inspired Organizations that are registered NGOs at the United Nations were first called together at the Vatican by Pope Benedict XVI. The gathering recognized that the UN is often the place where pro-abortion, anti-family concepts and language are introduced and attempts made to insert these concepts into international law. Catholic lay organizations are seen as the best defense against these radical attempts to normalize abortion, euthanasia and other anti-life measures.
“The mission of this gathering is a lofty one,” said Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, who worked at the Vatican under St. John Paul II at the Pontifical Council for the Family. “It aims to strengthen the Church’s voice in every aspect of society, but especially where the dignity of every human being – born or unborn – is concerned. Priests for Life is grateful to be included in this mission and we have much to contribute to these vital conversations.”
This was the first visit to the Vatican for Ms. King, the niece of the late Martin Luther King Jr.
“I’m traveling with a prayerful heart and an open mind to learn how those of us devoted to promoting the sanctity of every human life can work together,” Ms. King said.
Mr. Lalonde, who attended the conference for the second time, said “We appreciate the important efforts of the organizers and valuable contributions of all the participating international organizations.”
