ATLANTA -- Evangelist Alveda King, director of Civil Rights for the Unborn for Priests for Life, said it was “an honor and a privilege, as a citizen of Georgia, to be present today when Gov. Brian Kemp signed the Heartbeat Bill, identifying the baby in the womb as a person with a beating heart.”
Evangelist King said she worked with the National Black Pro-Life Coalition to help get the bill through the Georgia Legislature and onto the governor’s desk. Also present for today’s signing were Coalition members Dean Nelson of the Douglas Leadership Coalition and Catherine Davis of The Restoration Project.
“It could not have been a greater honor for us,” she said. “It gives glory to God for us to acknowledge the beating heart in the womb.”
Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, pointed out that the actual name of the bill – the Living Infants Fairness and Equality Act recognizes that an unborn child in the womb is not a potential life, but a human being with a beating heart.
“Bills like these enshrine in law the scientific fact that the humanity of the child in the womb is not dependent on whether the baby is wanted by his or her parents,” he said. “They are our brothers and sisters, and by virtue of their humanity share the same right to life as all of us.”
Evangelist King said there has been a shift in the U.S. regarding the unborn.
“We are winning,” she said. This past weekend she took part in a massive rally in New York City where Abby Johnson, whose abortion conversion story is told in the movie “Unplanned,” underwent a 4D ultrasound to demonstrate the humanity of the child she is carrying.
“There is a shift and it is apparent and evident,” Evangelist King said. “Seeing pro-abortion protesters in Times Square drop their signs and walk away tells me that we are winning.”
During today’s bill-signing ceremony in the Georgia statehouse, Evangelist King was able to present Gov. Kemp with a copy of her book, “America Return to God.”
