TITUSVILLE, FL -- Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement today regarding the bill passed by the Alabama Senate Tuesday that would protect babies from abortion.
“Alabama legislators are to be congratulated for their commitment to the unborn,” Father Pavone said. “The first purpose of law is the protection of life. Laws permitting abortion undermine the very nature of law. Alabama has taken a very strong step forward for pro-life efforts in the United States.”
Commenting on potential court challenges, Fr. Pavone added, “Courts tend to strike down laws that are as protective of children in the womb as this one is. And we should not think that any particular law can ‘force’ the Supreme Court to accept a case, much less to reverse Roe vs. Wade. But at the same time, no Supreme Court case has faced as much criticism as Roe, including from lower court judges. Cases like this give them the opportunity to continue to craft those dissenting arguments that, in the future, could be used in a pro-life majority decision.”
Father Pavone pledged that he and the whole Priests for Life team would “continue to work with the people of Alabama, and citizens all across our nation, to restore the protections of the law to these youngest, most defenseless children in the womb.”
