WASHINGTON, D.C. - To commemorate the national tragedy of Roe v. Wade, Priests for Life will host a candlelight prayer vigil from 7 to 8 p.m. Jan. 22 – the 47th anniversary of the decision - in front of the U.S. Supreme Court building.
National pro-life and religious leaders have been invited to take part in the hour-long vigil that will focus on praying for an end to abortion.
“This vigil will be a solemn one because of the anniversary it marks,” said Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life. “Sometimes we pray to ask God to make his will clear to us. In this case, we pray because we know God’s will in regard to abortion. He hates the shedding of innocent blood and so do we. He commands that we protect these children. Our prayers on this occasion will deepen our resolve to do so.
“We will also pray for the Justices of the Court, and those who serve on courts nationwide.”
Father Denis Wilde, OSA, associate director of Priests for Life, and Evangelist Alveda King, director of the Priests for Life outreach Civil Rights for the Unborn, will be among the leaders who will offer prayers.
The event will be live-streamed and can be seen on Priests for Life’s online broadcast channel www.EndAbortion.TV and the various social media and internet video platforms linked from there.
Father Pavone said he hopes everyone who has arrived in D.C. for the March for Life and those who live in the D.C. area will attend the vigil, saying, “It will be a great spiritual preparation for the March itself.”
The Supreme Court is located at 1 First St NE. The nearest Metro stops are Union Station and Capitol South.
